A game at eye level and a result which is deceptive: UBR can keep up in the first game in the highest league

Unihockey Basel Regio loses after an even game against Chur with 2:4.

It was a historic moment for Unihockey Basel Regio: Patrick Mendelin launched Yannick Lindroos from the halfway line in the 37th minute, who appeared alone in front of Chur goalie Marco Hutter and pushed the ball past him into the goal. The cheers of the Finnish scorer for the first Basel NLA goal in history could be heard throughout the arena.

Dress rehearsal on Friday was a success

Before the first league match, UBR had to play the sixteen-final of the Cup against Eggiwil on Friday, which they won with 7:2. Taking the momentum with them, UBR started well in the away match against Chur on Sunday and did not let their inexperience show. The hosts put the pressure on from the start, but Basel held their own and had one or two good chances. More than a feeling out was hardly to be seen in the first period and the game was on eye level throughout. Although Chur played high pressing again and again, Basel were fearless and tried to shoot from all positions. By the way, you can place bets on sports here.

In the 30th minute, there was the first small upset of the game, when Fabian Frutschi went a little too hard into a duel and briefly clashed with his opponent. But the game could be continued without penalties and it was the home team that was allowed to cheer for the first time this evening in the 36th minute: After a nice combination Gian-Luca Amato pushed the ball into the goal from the right side. Almost in the counterattack the scene described at the beginning occurred and the game was even again. Shortly before the end of the middle third, Basel was lucky, because after Chur had started pressing again, Leon Schlegel's shot only bounced off the crossbar.

Basel's courage was not rewarded

After the restart, Chur took the lead again and even extended the advantage to 3:1 through a remarkable one-two passing sequence, before Basel came back to within one goal through a combination of Mendelin, Lindroos and Dennis Kramer. Three minutes before the end Basel risked everything and took their goalkeeper off for an additional field player. In the following powerplay they almost managed to equalize several times, but it was Aaro Helin who decided the game with a shot from the center line for the 4:2 final score.

The next attempt to prove itself UBR has at home on Saturday. The women will start at 2:30 p.m. against Appenzell, followed by the men at 5:30 p.m. against Köniz.
